About Us

First Christian Church Boulder is one of only two open and affirming congregations in the Rocky Mountain Region. As an open and affirming congregation, the members and staff of First Christian Church are committed to fostering community among people of all races, cultures and sexual orientations. The decision to become open and affirming was made by the congregation after over a year of deliberation, prayer and study. We are very committed to a society which honors diversity, and promotes dignity and justice for all people.

Disciples of Christ History
Emerging in the early 1800s from what was then frontier America, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) grew out of Scottish Presbyterian and Baptist roots. Today, we number over 4000 faith communities with a membership of nearly 1,000,000. Professing "no creed but Christ," we share in the Lord's Supper weekly and accept all forms of baptism in our congregationally directed churches.

Thomas Campbell, one of the founders of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), stated that "The church of Christ upon earth is essentially, inten-tionally, and constitutionally one." Christian unity and the ecumenical work of God through the church have been important throughout our denomination's short history.
