THE BOARD WALK
The following report will be part of the Board's report to the Congregation at our meeting on November 12th but it seemed as if it would be helpful for you all to have a chance to read this before
the meeting.
In January we received an unsolicited letter from a local lawyer on behalf of a developer with an offer to buy our property.
It was decided that the trustees (Marcie Geissinger,
Hugh Crowder, and Gary Howell) and
There was a letter to the congregation explaining the situation.
FCCafés and House Meetings were held with members of the congregation. There was overwhelming support for moving ahead with the sale of our current property. The biggest concerns were from the people at Golden West and a general consensus was built that should we move we would need to provide transportation to the new building for these people. One or two people wanted to investigate the possibility of combining with another congregation and they did that.
The Campus Acquisition and Future Exploration committee (Café) was formed with Hugh Crowder as the chair and they began looking for property.
On April 30th we called a special Congregational
meeting and voted to sell our property at
We interviewed commercial realtors and chose Paige Heiman-Coker to help us in our search for a new place. The Café committee has looked at close to 40 properties.
The Café committee and Board met with and interviewed Church Design Concepts and Church Extension to determine who might best help us as we move forward. The Café committee and the Board are recommending that we hire Church Design Concepts to design the building and over see the construction.
During this time the Trustees +1 continued to meet with the lawyers and the developer and signed a contract to sell our property on August 15, 2006 and a letter was sent to the congregation on August 21st detailing the terms of the contract.
Meanwhile we have begun to zero in on a replacement
property. The property is the site of

Because we will need to have a bridge loan in place to purchase the property we have submitted financial information to Chase Bank and Wells Fargo Bank and are waiting for proposals from them.

The Board, the Café Committee and the Trustees +1 all wish to thank you for your caring and your prayers. Let's continue to be in prayer for one another and for our church as we move forward.

Hey Terry!
Good to hear from you! School is going really well. My classes and lessons are good. I'm in a bunch of jazz ensembles and I'm playing all the time. I'm also in another Balinese Gamelan ensemble here and I'm taking an African drumming class.

OPEN HEARTS…
OPEN DOORS… OPEN TO THE FUTURE
CAPITAL
CAMPAIGN ENTERS ITS 2ND YEAR
A little over one year ago, the congregation committed to raising almost $200,000 over three years to renovate the sanctuary. A lot has happened in that year, and it has turned out to be very appropriate that this campaign had “Open to the Future” in its title. Our future is going to be a different direction, and a different place, than we thought, but the church continues to have significant capital needs.
Many people have asked “Should I continue to keep my capital campaign pledge?” The short answer is “Yes, if you are still able to do so.” Why is this important? That requires a little more explanation.
Our interim sanctuary renovation is now nearly completed. Most of the large expenses, such as the moveable seating and the sound system, are for elements that will come with us to our new home. The last, and largest, piece of the renovation is the new organ from Walker Technical Company. It is scheduled to arrive in January, along with a bill for $71,380. The installation of the organ will mark the completion of the sanctuary renewal program, and we look forward to an organ concert in celebration of this achievement. Of course, the organ, too, will come with us when we move.
The completion of the Sanctuary Renewal does not end our costs, however. The move to a new location generates many new expenses that we must be ready to meet. We need to hire a design firm to work with us to make our vision for a new church a reality. The congregation has expressed a strong interest in showing our commitment to be good stewards of the land by building in an environmentally-friendly way, something that may have higher costs in the short term but pay long-term dividends. And of course, with any building project there are many unanticipated costs and fees that we must be prepared to pay.
At this point the church has already received over 60% of the total amount pledged. If you are uncertain as to where you stand with your capital campaign pledge, please contact Marcie Geissinger. To be truly “Open to the Future” we must see this campaign through to completion.
Sincerely,
Erik Mason
“Open to the Future” Campaign Chair

The Way of the
Kitchen, or Eating to Change the World
How to achieve
good health and reform the world, all from the humble dinner table.
Who would guess that the dinner table can be a
powerful pathway for change, both for ourselves and our world. But here is the problem: "Eating
aware" people can hardly make a difference when our lives are so hectic
that even ordering takeout is a stretch.
Happily, author Mary Collette Rogers has discovered that busy people
don't have to be hostages to take out and fast foods. In this interactive talk, she reveals the
secret for eating in a way that matches our ideals--even with impossibly busy
lives. Learn about the many positive
impacts that can be brought about by conscious food and eating choices and how
to unlock the life-changing potential hidden in the humble kitchen.
Mary Collette
Rogers has witnessed the power of good eating.
When her children were quite young, they suffered serious illnesses
which she was able to cure through nutritional therapy. Since that time, she developed a nutrition
and meal management software program and most recently authored Take
Control of Your Kitchen, both products designed to help busy people tap
into the joys of the kitchen and the healthful riches of good food. She loves to inspire fun and creativity in
the kitchen while sharing the helpful insights, tips and strategies gathered
over 15 years in the healthy eating and cooking fields.

Coffee and tea will be available.

THANK YOU, FCC CHEFS!
Among the many ways that FCC supports campus ministry, providing free home-cooked meals may be one of the offerings that is most appreciated by the UMHE students. Thank you to Carol Ashmore, Carol Poore, Doris Martin, and Sandy Bish for joining me in providing a yummy dinner for the UMHE students at their weekly fellowship meeting on October 11th.

FEED THE UMHE STUDENTS –
ROUND 2!
I am looking for volunteers to prepare a main dish, side dish, salad, or desert for Wednesday, November 8th. The meal is an important part of the STUDENTS’ weekly fellowship gatherings, and is provided by UMHE's supporting churches. Please contact Heather Avens at 720.890.1252 or <heatheravens@yahoo.com> if you have a dish you'd like to provide.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
As many of you know, our church offers a meal, a light lunch, or a reception to the families of loved ones who have passed away. In order to provide this service we need to enlist the help of the people in the congregation to help serve or make salads, cookies, etc.
We try to update our list each year and this is that time. Some of our helpers have grown older and can no longer help us; others have moved away; and, some feel they have just done that long enough! You know how that is! Anyway, we are recruiting again and hope that many of you will be able to help. If you are already on our list, an no longer wish to be contacted, would you please let us know. Otherwise, I’m sure we’ll be in touch for your help.
Catch us at church or give us a call: Jean Crowder 303.442.0449, Jeannine Henderson 303.442.6188 or Kay Norris at 303.442.5081.
Thanks in advance for your help.
