LIFE & NEWS OF THE CONGREGATION!

Warren and Sharon Wendling have just returned from another vacation.  Whew!!  They traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  Wow!  They snorkeled and swam everyday.  They

also hiked in the Sierra Madres and explored the shops and restaurants on the Malecon.

                   Neat place.

Congratulations to Cameron Skanes who received first place at a tumbling mini-meet at

her gym last week!

After watching the CU football game, Marcie Geissinger and Neil Ashby enjoyed the

Thanksgiving weekend in Breckenridge with family.

After traveling to New Orleans to hear daughter Mardi Byers sing there, Jane and Mardi Byers flew to Houston to be with family over Thanksgiving.

Barbara Harrison, Terry Zimmerman’s sister, took home to California a special souvenir of her recent visit; a black eye!  Ice in a parking lot in Estes Park is given the credit.

Visitors at worship with us on November 25th got a cold reception!  The boiler in the sanctuary building wasn’t working.  Worship was held in Riley Hall which was a few degrees warmer than upstairs.  THANK YOU to that days’s diaconate team and volunteers

from the Conversation Café who created “instant worship space!”

Erica Haseman worshiped with us while on break from CSU.

Kendra Colyar met her boyfriend Eric in Wyoming so that they could drive to his parents home in Idaho to celebrate Thanksgiving.  They had an awesome time.

BIG THANKS to our Elders who served up a wonderful Thanksgiving feast for the congregation; especially to Heather Avens, Louise Johnson, Erik Mason and Barbara Wilkins-Crowder whose Elder terms expire this year!

Roger and Peggie Hudiburg; Charles, Debbie and Maggie Haseman; and Doug & Ellen Hudiburg and their three children enjoyed Thanksgiving in Breckenridge.  Erica was a guest of her boyfriend and his parents in Montrose for turkey day.

BOOK FAIR UPDATE

Thank you all for your support of the Book Fair.  We sold half of the books that we brought to be sold.  The Library Committee thanks you.  We also have a new shelf for new books.  Many were bought at past book fairs and have finally made their way to the shelves.  Please check it out.  If you find a book to check out, please sign and date the checkout card and leave in the gray metal box in the southeast corner of the library.

THANK YOU

Dear Church Family:

I very much appreciate your on-going prayers and support as I progress through the initial cycles of chemotherapy.  Each cycle seems to bring new surprises and problems that might be intolerable without knowing so many people are "there" for me.

Thank you all!

DIACONATE NEEDS HELP!!!

If you are looking for a way to serve your church community that doesn't take much of a time commitment, being a Diaconate Team Leader and / or Member could work for you.

There's 1 team for each Sunday of the month (once a year each team also serves on a 5th Sunday).  The team arrives at 9:00 a.m. to start the coffee for FCC, set up the sanctuary and communion, passes out bulletins prior to the service and arranges for the candle lighting, passes the collection trays, serves communion and cleans up after the service.  That's, it and we're done by 1:00 p.m.  That's only 4 hours a month.

Please call Deb or Dave Manica at 303.666.8868 to volunteer.  We really need Team Leaders and Members.

Deb Manica

Diaconate Co-Chair

CHRISTMAS OFFERING

Celebrate the Gift!!!  This is the theme for our 2007 Christmas Offering for Regional Ministry.  All gifts will remain within our own Region, which is our congregation's extended family, and will be used to support congregations and pastors, to establish new churches and strengthen existing ones, to share in mission projects and ecumenical partnerships, and to nurture those training for ministry.  The Region is the front line of support for congregations and pastors.  Let's remember this special offering on December 16th and 23rd.

NEW IN THE PEW AT GOLDEN WEST

When Maxine and George Cebula were planning to move from Las Vegas, they had a sale.

From their collection of hundreds of DOLLS, they downsized to eight or nine hundred!  George's occupation as an industrial engineer took the family from Montgomery, IL to West Salem, NC and to New Jersey.  But when it was time to choose a retirement home, he and Maxine chose Las Vegas.  There they became involved members of the United Methodist Church.  The church building is located right across from the UNLV campus.  Maxine was in the choir and she mentioned that students from there greatly enhanced the choir.  One of George's responsibilities was stocking and managing the large cart of folders and pamphlets about the church and its many outreach and volunteer opportunities.  Both were greeters.  But after 11 years, it was time to move to be near to their daughter, Nancy and her family.  And now Golden West is their home.  Maxine has already become a valued member of the Deborah-Rebekah Disciple Women's Group where she is the Worship Leader.  Both Maxine and George are regular attendees at the Sunday morning worship at Golden West.  (And both join many other FCC members in giving thanks for Terry's sermons and ministry.)

The Cebula's daughter and her husband, Nancy Cebula and Bob Rehm, are business management consultants and their daughter Stephanie manages two horse stables.

But back to the dolls......In the 58 years of their marriage, George developed his hobby of collecting specific dolls such as the Ginny Dolls, the 8 inch Vogue Dolls and Shirley Temple dolls to name a few.  Maxine specialized in collecting porcelain dolls and Barbie, Chrissy and Gorham - also to name a few.  800-900 dolls made the trip from Las Vegas to Boulder where they now reside at Golden West!

We heartily greet Maxine and George as they join the FCC community.

LEADERSHIP RETREATS – JANUARY & FEBRUARY 2008

At the beginning of each year the church has a planning retreat for committee chairs, committee members, and anyone else who would like to participate.  In 2008, as we continue the transition to a new location for our church, we are glad to welcome Rev. Elizabeth Thompson of Centus Counseling, Consulting, and Education to lead us through training on how churches face transition and conflict.  This training is a follow-up to the Discernment Process the church began in 2007.

On Saturday, January 12th, from 9 am – 1 pm, Rev. Thompson will lead us in the first part of the training, looking broadly at congregations in transition and how that affects each member.  After a light lunch, the committees of the church will meet to plan the year’s events and programs.

On Saturday, February 2nd, again from 9 am – 1 pm, Rev. Thompson will help us to apply the concerns of congregations in transition to First Christian Church – Boulder.  In this second session, we will develop plans for a process that will continue through the year to help us through the challenges that the congregational move may bring.

I encourage everyone who is in a leadership role, or who wishes to gain a better understanding of transition and the conflict that it can bring, to attend both the January 12th and February 2nd retreats.

Erik Mason
