YET ANOTHER REASON TO GIVE
THANKS
“Count your blessings, name them one by one…”
And our most recent blessing is named Dustin Adkins. Dustin, our new youth director, joined our staff the first Sunday of November. You hopefully had an opportunity to meet and get acquainted with him following worship that day—or perhaps have seen him up front during the Children’s Time. (He’s the one who is as big as our “permanent” child, Dale Abel.)
Dustin received his bachelor’s degree in Ministry (with a
minor in Psychology) from
This enthusiastic young man fills a very important role in our congregation: ministering to – and
through – our youth. Make it a point to welcome and support him as we work and fellowship together.
THANKSGIVING SPECIAL
OFFERING
The annual Thanksgiving Special Offering goes to support Ministries of Higher Education through the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The offering helps to ensure that Disciples institutions of higher learning will continue to train the future leaders of the church.
Fourteen Disciples colleges & universities and seven theological institutions receive support from the Thanksgiving offering which will be received on November 18th.
Thank you,
The Outreach Committee

We have “adopted” 3 children. We were assigned 3 boys and have received the list of needs for each one. Carol Ashmore and Kay Lowe-Wendling are the most careful shoppers you can imagine.
They found a day when the local Kohl’s department store had a huge sale: 50% off plus an in-store “Senior’s Discount.” (Do you suppose Kohl’s should have asked for their ID’s?) FCC donors to the Dress-A-Child program surely got the most for their money! Besides the clothing, we are asked to provide $40.00 per child for shoes. Can you visualize the joy “our” boys will experience with new sweaters, jeans, pajamas, and shirts – Plus new shoes?
Disciple Women budget $200.00 each year for this cause and the Deborah-Rebekah group also gives from their funds. All other gifts are generously contributed by members of the FCC community.
Checks made out to Disciple Women may be placed in the offering trays or given to Louise
Johnson. Merry
Christmas for 3 boys at the

PRAYERS STILL NEEDED FOR
AIDAN IMMROTH
Many of you may recall Aidan Immroth, the grandson of a friend of mine who has spent most of his young life battling brain tumors. The original one was conquered with chemotherapy, but he’s developed another one on the optic nerves. So, now his family has the specific worry of him losing his eyesight, in addition to the general threat to his life. Following is a report from his grandmother, Prof. Barbara Immroth, which she asked me to pass along to all of those who have prayed for Aidan during his many turns on our prayer list.

Aidan update: He's in
weekly chemo at M.D. Anderson - the tumor on the optic nerves is shrinking and
he'll probably be in chemo until spring.
He's in 4th grade - still in dual language and doing well with
Spanish. He's also studying mythology
which he's enjoying. He's taken up the
flute and is learning some Christmas carols - which he began in the summer
because his teacher wanted him to know some carols by Christmas! He's also taking tennis lessons at
Please share with your church members and thank them from the family for keeping him in their prayers.
Very best, Barbara (Grandmother of Aidan and friend of Keith Lance)
BAG MAKERS, BREAD BAKERS AND
HAND SHAKERS
Only visitors to FCC receive the
gift of Brown Bag Bread (try saying that three times fast!). This important ministry is made possible by a
small group of very dedicated volunteers from our church family.
In this season of Thanksgiving I would like to recognize each of the ones who serve as greeters or do the labor behind the scenes. Vera Jones prepares the bags, beginning with attaching small rope handles to the bags and tucking a sheet of red tissue inside them. She then adds a card which reads:
YOU BROKE BREAD WITH US THIS MORNING - LET US BREAK
BREAD WITH YOU THIS WEEK

Jeannine Henderson is kept quite busy baking small loaves of bread and small loaves of bread and……….. to keep the church freezer supplied.
On Sunday morning, the designated Greeter places a loaf of bread in the bag and adds a copy of the latest issue of The Ram’s Horn. Greeters are rewarded with big smiles and pleased expressions when a visitor is presented with our gift.
This important ministry adds to our

Our prayers and love go to the family of Ferne Denton who died on October 26th. Ferne’s husband, Al, died just one year and two weeks earlier. A Celebration of Life was shared on November 9th in our sanctuary with Rev. Zimmerman officiating. Their daughter Pat and son Jere survive.
COMMON TABLES
“When millions of people
gather to break bread and discover common stories, they create space in which
new stories can be written together.”
Today there is good news! A new organization has been formed which presents each of us with the opportunity to take an active role in determining our collective destiny. The organization is called Common Tables. The fundamental idea is to empower each of us to be “the change we want to see in the world.”
Common Tables was created to start at the grass roots level and to help create environments in which friendships can be built which transcend religious, cultural, ethnic, political and lifestyle differences.
What does Common Tables do? We provide opportunity and encouragement for people of differing religious, spiritual or philosophical beliefs to come together in relaxed social settings and to get to know one another as individuals.
How does that work? Briefly, when you join Common Tables as an individual or with a partner you will be introduced into a diverse group called a “Table” located in your general geographic area. Over the following six months you will get together four times – usually for dinner and usually in a Table member’s home. There is of course more to the process and you can find out a lot more about Common Tables by visiting our website at www.CommonTables.org.
