YOUTH SUNDAY STRIKES!

Youth Sunday will be held on November 19th, which is also our Thanksgiving Sunday, something Sherrill is very thankful for!

The youth have been working on this service for SIX weeks and will be doing both services.  Elders, as you cook Thanksgiving dinner for the entire congregation, remember(!) our sermons are shorter than Terry's, so you'll have to hurry!

The theme this year is 1 Timothy 4:12.  Join us and watch the youth's example!

Sherrill Morris, Youth Director

You are invited to join us for a cornucopia of food and fellowship after the service on Sunday, November 19th.  The elders will be providing two turkeys, a ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes and rolls.  Please bring a desert or a side dish to share.  Also, please bring a plate and silverware so that we can avoid having to use disposable tableware.  Let's give thanks for potlucks!

-The Elders

WE REMEMBER IN PRAYER

Ann Canady, Marj Collins, Ray Crowder, Joann Dennett, Deborah Hudson (friend of Teresa Tuschhoff), Barbara Johnson, Frank Pulver, Site Selection Committee (Café), John Stickle, friends of Marilyn Howell.

THANKING VOLUNTEERS…

A HUGE thank you goes out to all the parents of youth group who have helped out so far this year.  They have been the basis of an awesome youth program!  They have ridden go carts, gone to a corn maze, hosted parties and such things.  Hey, that sounds like fun! If you would like to share in the fun, just let Sherrill know.  It's great for the kids to feel supported by all the members of the congregation as well as their parents!  And again, THANKS!

                                                                                                Sherrill Morris,

Youth Director

THANK YOU!

A very special thank you to all the people from our church who attended the Colorado Christian Home Annual Denver Dinner on Friday, October 27th, at the new Convention Center.  At the gala event approximately $470,000 was raised.  The contributions of those who attended plus those from members who contributed but were unable to attend were greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Milton and Carol Ashmore

                     UMHE NEWS

Hello all from United Ministries in Higher Education, your campus ministry at CU-Boulder!  We've had an transformative fall, with a new minister, Rev. Todd Smiedendoff, and a new Unitarian Univeralist minister, Dr. Denise Hall.  We hope you get a chance to meet the new staff soon!  Our programs this fall have centered around stewardship; stewardship of the body, community, world, etc.  Needless to say, it's been enlightening!

Our fall retreat, Spirit and the Arts, was held at the beautiful YMCA of the Rockies.  It was a great chance to deepen connections and meditate/discover through the arts.  Our UU Ministry has been busy as well; we held a panel discussion on racial equity at First Christian Church in October!  In addition to all of this, we managed to make it over to the CROP WALK, where we were delighted to see many of you.

And, finally, our spirituality and sexuality group, Coming Out Faithful, is growing by leaps and bounds this year.  If you're interested in speaking to the group about your experience, email Kelly at Kelly.Colwell@Colorado.edu.  For more about UMHE's happenings, look for our recent newletter, the Spiral Scoop, around your church.  Thanks again and again for your continued support of this life-changing ministry!

Kathy Evans,

Community Liaison Peer Minister

WELCOME NEW FAMILY!

On Sunday, October 29th we welcomed a new family into our church family.  Kristy and Jeff Austin came forward at the end of our worship service to place their membership with FCC.  With them were their children: son Corey Skanes (5th grade) and daughter Cameron Skanes (3rd grade).  Please help to make this wonderful family feel at home with us.  Here’s the information to add to your directory:

LIFE AND NEWS OF THE CONGREGATION!

Milton and Carol Ashmore enjoyed a trip to Dallas to attend Carol’s 50th high school class reunion.  According to Carol, they had a blast!

Becca Hirsch is a grandmother (of sorts)!  Ysabelle, born on Wednesday, October 25, is Ray’s first grandchild.

November means NaNoWriMo again!  National Novel Writing Month is a self challange to write a 50,000 word novel in the 30 days of November!  Sherrill and 76,000 other participants are endeavoring to do this again this year!  So, when you see her, ask about the novel.  (That

way she'll be too embarrassed to quit!)  Besides, a novel and Youth Sunday in the same month, well, that's just crazy...

New knees are all the rage!  Just ask Ray Crowder who got a new one on November 7th.

OOPS!  Marj Collins fell and broke her wrist during a recent walk, so she’ll be wearing a cast to accessorize her outfits for several weeks.

Thanks to Sherrill Morris for preaching on November 12 and to the Rev. Cheryl Breiner who will fill in for Terry on November 26.

EXTREME TRAVELERS:  Mary ann Pinon has just returned from a 19 day trip to Africa

and Louise Johnson just came back from 10 days in China!  Wouldn’t we like to hear more about their adventures at an FCCafé?

Terry thanks everyone for their prayers and sort of funny jokes following his carpal tunnel procedure.

Debbie Haseman’s work as a mentor of teachers was featured in an article appearing in the November 8 edition of the Daily Camera.  We’re proud of you, Debbie!
