Easter!  Christ is risen!!  He is living indeed!!!

And so are we!  Come to celebrate new life in worship and praise.  And come to fellowship with food and friends at our traditional Easter breakfast.  The children and youth will celebrate in both old and new ways; it is only fitting that we adults learn to participate with the same joy and enthusiasm.

The Church Growth and Fellowship Committee warmly encourages you to be present for this glorious day in the life of the church.  Thank you in advance for your willingness to prepare and share the food for the feast.

UPDATE ON SALE OF PROPERTY

This week we will again be amending our contract for the sale of the church property with another 90-day extension to the due diligence date (new due date of June 28) and to the replacement property deadline (new due date of February 11, 2008).

On March 23, Hugh Crowder, Eleanor Hubbard, Marcie Geissinger and Brendan Chatham, representing FCC, met with Jim Chanin (and other Chanin representatives) and representatives of the Golden West Board in a continuing effort to have the easement through the Church’s south parking lot vacated by GW.  Jim Chanin’s staff is working on a re‑design of the development to satisfy requests from the GW Board members.

Those of us who have been working with Chanin during the past year have high regard for his integrity and desire to work with FCC.  We are hopeful that we will continue to move forward with the sale of FCC property to Chanin.

Marcie Geissinger, Chair, Board of Trustees

BLAKE HOWARD RECEIVES EAGLE SCOUT RANK

Blake achieved the Eagle Scout rank, the highest honor that can be attained in Boy Scouts.  Only 4 percent of the boys who join Scouting earn this honor.  For his Eagle Scout project, Blake organized and managed the building of two sets of bleachers for the tennis courts at Centennial Middle School.  There will be a triple Eagle Court of Honor in which Blake will receive his Eagle Scout award on Saturday, April 7th, at 7:00 p.m. at the Boulder Elks Lodge, 3975 28th Street.  The congregation is cordially invited to attend.  There will be a reception following the ceremony.

IS YOUR NAME ON THE LIST?

Attention!!  If you have EVER helped with Community Table, will you please contact the church office so Linda can add your name to the list?  The Outreach and Christian Action Committee is planning a surprise on May 20.  Keep tuned.

Thanks,

Priscilla Gifford

NEW ADDITION TO EASTER SUNDAY MORNING?

After the Easter Breakfast and Egg Hunt for the younger children, and before the baptisms and worship celebration, you might notice an experimental addition!  Then middle and high school youth will be participating in the breaking of cascarones at the far end of the lawn.

Jack Trejo gave me a bit of history of the celebration.  The first evidence of the tradition actually comes from China, where men in the royal courts would throw eggs with perfumed powder inside at the women whose attention they hoped to garner.  Marco Polo brought this tradition back to the courts of Italy, where it spread to the Court of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella in Spain.  From there, it went to Mexico in the 1800's and became a favorite of the common people, although the eggs were now filled with confetti.  It marks a celebration of spring and the rebirth that comes with it.

This year, our youth have made their own cascarones.  We used birdseed instead of confetti, so that we wouldn't litter the yard.  We will be trying out this event while the younger children are busy taking the candy out of their eggs.  If it goes well, we might add it to the yearly Easter Celebration.  So, if you are not helping smaller children open their eggs, join us at the far end of the yard, where the youth will be gently cracking celebratory eggs over each other’s heads!  (If it were to snow, we would be postponing this event to a later Youth Group meeting, rather than attempting it in the fellowship hall!!!)

OF BREAD AND BROWN BAGS

FCC has a very unique gift for first-time visitors to our worship service.  After signing the guest book, they are given a small brown bag which contains a miniature loaf of baked bread and a copy of the most recent issue of The Ram's Horn.  We also include a copy of the information folder about FCC-Boulder.  Attached to the handle of the bag is a small note showing a red reproduction of The Disciples of Christ chalice and the following message:

YOU BROKE BREAD WITH US THIS MORNING - LET US BREAK

BREAD WITH YOU THIS WEEK

THE MEMBERSHIP OF FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH

CHURCH SCHOOL FOR ALL AGES 9:30 A.M. WORSHIP 10:45 A.M.

THERE'S A PLACE FOR YOU AT OUR TABLE.

I wish each of you could have the pleasure of watching the smile that this gift brings to a visitor's face!  (And you could - greeters are always needed!)

But the bags, the note and the bread do not magically appear.  The bags, the red tissue insert, the notes with the attached red ribbon are all provided by Vera Jones, a long-time member of FCC.  Our bread baker is Jeannine Henderson, another very active member of FCC.  Please know that this important ministry would not be possible without their efforts.

Louise Johnson (for church greeters)

BOULDER DINNER THEATRE

RAGTIME is a musical that follows a black musician, a white family and a Jewish immigrant during the early 1900’s.  It is a serious play with some levity – and the use of the “n” word and a realistic reflection of history.

FCC’s night at the Boulder Dinner Theatre is Thursday, April 12 at 6:15 p.m.

The Boulder Dinner Theatre has received fabulous reviews and tickets are selling fast.  The show ends on May 26th.  Tickets are $38 each (dinner, show, tea bottomless coffee, soda and the tip).

Contact Carrie Landis-Hausfather at 303.499.3125.

PLEASE DON’T SAY YOU DIDN’T NOTICE!

Much work has been accomplished “behind the scenes,” so we send out a big thank you to the

following “worker bees.”

  • Ray Crowder for making end tables for the pastor and elders sitting up front (It’s really nice to have some place to put your paraphernalia besides the floor!)
  • Dennis Hubbard and Jaime Alvarez for painting the place for our baptisms (Take a look, it’s a nice blue color now!)
  • Jean Crowder and Kay Norris for cleaning out the music library in the Education Building
  • Jean Crowder and Jeannine Henderson for cleaning Sherrill’s office and the office work room
  • Jean Crowder, Marcie Geissinger, Eleanor Hubbard, and Rosie Campbell who cleaned, organized and facilitated the use of FLOC stuff
  • Jean Crowder and Mary Crowder for cleaning the baptism rooms (Are you beginning to see a pattern here?  Thank you, thank you, and thank you to Jean!)
  • Peggie Hudiburg for having the pew cushions in the basement shortened so they will fit the newly “downsized” pews
  • David Shepherd for taking care of our sound system and for moving it when necessary.  Also to David for helping set up our new organ and make it playable (yeah!)

Dennis Hubbard

But the work isn’t done!….SO….

ANNUAL CLEAN-UP

There is lots more to do, so we need more worker bees!  Mark Saturday, May 12th on your calendars for a clean-up, fix-up and generally sprucing up day at FCC.   We will start at 9 a.m. and work until about 12.  There are many small jobs needed to spruce up the grounds, such as trimming and cleaning the flower areas; weeding and replacing a few plants in the area west of the main building; trimming bushes; picking up and hauling away branches and leaves, etc.  If you see other areas that need to be attended to, please let me know.  However, none of this can be done without members volunteering to help with the work.  Show up on May 12th and be assigned a job, or choose your job and let me know when it is finished.
