Maundy Thursday
Service
On Thursday, March 20th, we will be celebrating Maundy Thursday with a Love Feast. The Love Feast has four parts: the meal, the washing of feet, the sacrament of the bread, and the sacrament of the cup. The particular Love Feast that that we will have on Maundy Thursday has traditionally been celebrated by the Church of the Brethren, one of the three historical peace churches. The service will be from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the Meditation Room and the meal will be provided. For this reason, you must make a reservation to attend. Please do so as soon as possible but no later than Tuesday, March 18th to the church office, 303.442.1861 or to Eleanor Hubbard, 303.494.9718 or hubbarde@colorado.edu.
SEE “ONE GAY, ONE STRAIGHT”
The public premier of Carol
Grever's documentary: One Gay, One
Straight: Complicated Marriage will
be held on Monday, March 24, 7:00 p.m. at Boulder Public Library's
auditorium. This documentary is based on
her book, My Husband is Gay, that has been received well both at
home and abroad. The premier will be
followed by a panel discussion moderated by Grever with psychologist and
co-author, Dr. Deborah Bowman, documentary director Roz Dauber, two straight
spouses, and one gay ex-husband.
The free screening is sponsored by Boulder PFLAG and

Easter Special Offering
As the Easter Special Offering approaches on March 16th and 23rd, we hope you will become increasingly aware of its significance to the unique Disciples witness in the world. It provides financial resources for ministries that extend from your Sunday school rooms to the ends of the earth.
Contributions to the 2008 Easter
offering will benefit many ministries including Disciples Hurricane Recovery
Initiative, Disciples Women’s Ministries, Disciples Care for Children, the
Student Ecumenical Partnership, Global Ministries, web and
internet ministries, Ministerial Relief and Assistance, and many more.

A NEW CELEBRATION!
“Holy Humor Sunday” to be observed March 30th!
“Humor is not the opposite of seriousness. Humor is the opposite of despair.”
That quote is from Conrad Hyers who has written a number
of fine books on the topic of humor and faith. He points out that humor is “a
means of grace.” One, among many gifts
of God, but one that we seriously neglect. And we need to take it seriously.
Please note that the use of humor is not about laughing
all your troubles away. It is not a
means of avoiding the real issues of personal life and social justice. It is one of the tools God has given us to
deal with such struggles.
The point of Holy Humor Sunday is not to have a party,
but to receive from the worship experience a way of looking at life that is at
the heart of holy humor.
A sense of humor has little to do with the ability to
tell jokes (which is a theatrical skill, and a good one) or making a fool of
yourself in front of others. It is to
sense the divine ludicrousness of the life we live. It is to work hard and sacrificially to live a
life of faith and creativity, and through it to always hear in the background
God’s gentle, loving chuckle.
Elton Trueblood, writing many years ago, pointed out that
you can’t really understand some of Jesus’ parables unless you realize that
Jesus may be pulling your leg.
Come have your leg pulled as we worship together, Sunday,
March 30th!
ANOTHER
RECORD YEAR FOR SOUPER BOWL OF CARING
Food banks, soup kitchens and thousands of
other charities were the big winners of the "Souper Bowl of Caring"
on Super Bowl Sunday.
Souper Bowl of Caring 2008 totals
are still coming in and contributions to charities already has exceeded last
year's total. Over 14,000 groups around the country have reported using Souper
Bowl of Caring as a resource to fight hunger and poverty, collecting more than
$9 million for charities.
Over 300
Disciples congregations have reported their collection amount and the charity
to which they donated their collections. Disciples’ totals are nearly $120,000.
Got Skills? Join PRISM in May
for a Pine Ridge PROJECT
PRISM, your campus ministry, is teaming up with
the nonprofit Remember housing ministry and the Thunder Valley Community
Development Corporation (Thundervalley.org) to build a cooking shelter that
will serve the sacred ceremonial ground used by the Lakota of Thunder
Valley. Thunder Valley CDC is building
healthy community by promoting and passing on Lakota cultural identity and
spirituality.
Pete Seeger sang, “If I had a hammer...” Well, do you? Are you handy with one? We need you!
PRISM invites all who
would like to serve the Lakota people at Pine Ridge Reservation through
building. The Thunder Valley Community
Development Corporation has asked PRISM to fulfill a dream of theirs: to have a
safe, secure shelter in which to cook and serve food during sacred ceremonial
times. We will erect the simple 36x20
shelter (open on three sides) to provide covered space for children, elders,
and all the Lakota families who attend the sacred ceremonies Being invited to the sacred ceremonial
grounds is an honor; building something to be used during ceremony is a gift to
the soul of these Lakota.
But we, of course, will be receiving as much as giving on this
trip. There will be opportunity not only
to share time and work with the Lakota, but also to hear elder teaching and
possibly be invited to participate in some ceremony. The trip is May 17-23 and costs $350 for all
food, lodging, and transportation.
If you can’t come, you can support our trip by attending the PRISM
Dinner April 5th. Eat a Native American-themed
dinner catered by DISH Gourmet and learn more about Pine Ridge and our building
project with the nonprofits Remember and Thunder Valley Community Development
Corporation.
Other
ways to help are: donating your van for transportation, sponsoring a student,
and sponsoring or donating construction materials

PRAYER SHARED BY JANET
BARRIGER
O Lord God,
I have no idea
where I am going,
I do not see the
road ahead of me,
I cannot know for
certain where it will end.
Nor do I really
know myself.
And the fact that
I think I am following your will
Does not mean that
I am actually doing so.
But I believe that
the desire to please you
Does in fact please
you.
And I hope I have
that desire in all that I am doing.
…I will trust you
always
Though I may seem
to be lost
And in the shadow
of death
I will not fear,
And you are ever
with me,
And you will never
leave me
To make my journey
alone.
