POTLUCK DINNER

Enjoy some summer fun on Sunday, June 24 following the sanctuary worship service when the New Women’s Group sponsors the fellowship potluck dinner.  Don’t forget to worship and fellowship during the summer months!  Bring a hot weather favorite dish and table service.  Ya’ll come now!

FAREWELL TO IKUKO

Sunday, June 10th was Ikuko Scheuren’s last service with us.  The change, being a personnel issue, necessitates that most of the events leading up to this decision must remain confidential.  I assure you, as Chair of the Personnel Committee, that the process which the church has established for personnel issues was carefully followed, including a Board decision.  The Board felt that we would not be able to meet her requests which were far beyond what we could offer.  Therefore, ending our working relationship with Ikuko was the best thing to do.  Please join me in wishing Ikuko well in her future endeavors.

A committee is being formed to review the job descriptions for both the Director of Music and the Accompanist to ensure that they reflect what we are expecting.  After that process is completed, we will begin the search for a new Accompanist.  I want to personally thank the Board and the members of the Personnel Committee for graciously giving their time to deal with this situation.

Becca Hirsch has agreed to fill in for Ikuko for the time being.  I also want to say a huge thank you to her for stepping in and allowing our Sunday services to continue with wonderful music.  We are indeed blessed.

Pam Ware, Chair of the Personnel Committee

THANK YOU COMMUNITY TABLE

A very special thank you to Priscilla Gifford who planned and coordinated the Community Table volunteer thank you event on Sunday, May 20th.  She did a great job.  Thanks to Rosemary Campbell for her research and help and to Kay Lowe-Wendling and Marcie Geissinger for taking pictures of the volunteers while they were serving at Community Table.

            It was a great celebration.

WANTED

Nursery attendant for Sunday mornings during worship.  Must be loving, patient, great with kids of all ages, able to multi-task.  Oh, what the heck, we need someone JUST LIKE Sarah Johnson!  I am sad to say that Sarah will be leaving us as a "full-time" nursery attendant.  She will be coming back as a volunteer 1-2 times a month this fall.  However, she is taking the summer off for family time.  Thanks so much, Sarah, for all of the love that you have given all of our children.

Jeff Wilkins-Crowder, Chair of Educational Activities

ANNUAL ALL-CHURCH RUMMAGE SALE COMING UP!

PLAN AHEAD!

Let this event serve as an inspiration to you and your neighbors and friends to weed out your closets, garages, and basements.  Set those wonderful, clean, desirable, but no longer needed items aside for the Rummage Sale.  If you must get the things out of your space before the sale, call Kay.  Otherwise, PLEASE, wait for the announcement that it is OK to begin bringing things to the church, as space is limited and not secure.  All money earned from this sale goes to the Disciple Mission Fund through our women’s group, Disciple Women.  Leftover product stays in the Boulder County community and benefits many people.  Think of our Rummage Sale as the gift that keeps on giving.

Please mark the sale and set up dates on your calendars now and plan to be part of this major outreach endeavor involving the entire congregation.

Dates of sale:  Friday and Saturday, September 7 and 8

Set up days:  Wednesday and Thursday, September 5 and 6

These sales are always fun and a valuable outreach.  Please plan to participate in every way that you can:  donating, buying, and helping.

Volunteer by calling Kay Norris 303.442.5081 or the church office.

                                                                                                Kay Norris

LIFE & NEWS OF THE CONGREGATION!

Nick Saraceni, grandson of Roberta McClintock, will be attending the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA in the fall.  He graduated from Niwot High School this spring and his baseball team almost made it to the state championship finals.

Gary and Marilyn Howell vacationed in May to see their daughter, Felicia and her husband Jason in Bellingham, Washington.  They had a wonderful time.

Congratulations to Eleanor and Dennis Hubbard who celebrated the birth of their first grandchild, William Calvin Hubbard Lewis to daughter Kirsten and son-in-law Brian, on June 5th.  Calvin was 19” long and weighed 8 lbs. at birth.

Our love and prayers are extended to Scott and Angie Rothkamp and family, at the death of Scott’s mother, Patricia Rothanburg in Minnesota.  We welcome them back to their extended family at FCC.

At last report Frank Campbell is recuperating following surgery on June 11 to repair an aortic aneurysm.

Linda Abel enjoyed a wonderful time in Iowa visiting her mother and two sisters plus with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins!  As always, lots of Blue Bunny Bordeaux Cherry Chocolate ice cream was consumed!

June 27 is the 59th wedding anniversary of Mary and Hugh Crowder.  Congratulations!

Louise Johnson just returned from a quick trip to California to be with family and friends in celebration of her birthday!

Maggie Haseman is currently in Germany on an exchange program.  She is staying with the parents of Isabel Wendeburg who visited FCC with Maggie while she stayed in the U.S. with the Hasemans.

Sherrill Morris will be in the pulpit on June 17; Barbara Wilkins-Crowder on June 24; and Janet Barriger on July 1.

Marcie Geissinger and Neil Ashby were in Missouri last weekend where they hosted (along with her brother and sister-in-law) an Elliott family reunion in Green Ridge and visited other family members.  They had lunch with Mary Kay Surber, a former FCC Boulderite, in

Garden City, Missouri. They sadly report that Mary Kay's sister, with whom she lived, died

                  on May 22.

SARAH JOHNSON RESIGNS

We sadly share the news of a resignation from our church staff.  In submitting her resignation as Nursery Attendant, Sarah Johnson shares the following information with our congregation.  "This summer is going to be particularly busy for me, especially June.  I have a family commitment every weekend in June, including my sister's wedding.

“I will be starting grad school early September at DU.  I have decided to get my master's in Library and Information Science with an emphasis in both Archiving and Records Management and School Library Media.  I will be continuing my fulltime position at Boulder Day Nursery and going to school full time.  I anticipate my schedule being a little hectic and so wanted to cut down on other obligations.

“I love FCC and all the families I have come to know over the years.  I hope that I can still help out with the Sunday school on a voluntary basis.  I don't know who the teachers will be in the fall, but if you need another teacher for one Sunday each month, or a substitute teacher, please let me know. I believe I have already come to my last Sunday without even knowing it."

Sarah has been a faithful presence in the life of our congregation for several years.  She is especially loved by our nursery and toddler crowd and will be greatly missed.  We wish her well in this new chapter of her life and look forward to "keeping" her as part of our community!  In her absence, childcare help will be needed during the summer months for our worship hour.  A signup sheet is posted on the north bulletin board.  Please check your calendar for dates you might volunteer to help!

JULY IS B.C.A.P. FOOD MONTH!

As has been our tradition the past several years, First Christian Church of Boulder holds a special offering each Sunday during the month of July for B.C.A.P. (Boulder County AIDS Project).  Donations of cash, in an envelope marked "BCAP," or checks with "BCAP" in the memo, may be placed in the morning offering plate.

In addition, July is our month to help bag groceries which are to be distributed to BCAP clients. We need 3 or 4 volunteers.  Volunteers should go to the BCAP house (2118 14th St.) any time on Thursday, July 5th and Wednesday, July 18th.  Plan to be there 1 -1 ½ hours each time.  You may volunteer for one or both sessions by calling Linda in the church office at 303.442.1861.  This is yet another way our church family makes a difference in our community!  Thanks!

General instructions for bagging groceries are available through the church office.
