MERGER IN PROCESS

It was publicly announced last week that Community Table and Carriage House would merge to become one agency by the end of March 2008.  Both groups assist the homeless and hungry communities in Boulder and believe that, by combining boards and assets, they could better serve those in need.  The move was prompted by the sale of our church property where Community Table is hosted three evenings each week.  The two entities hope to locate to a new and independent location.

MARCH 9TH DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME BEGINS!

SPECIAL FCC CAFÉ PRESENTATION

You Won’t Want to Miss!

On Sunday, March 9th our FCC Café guest presenters will be Chris Risom and Jim Tedford who will lead us in a time of Nichiren Buddhist meditation and chanting.  This is a time of learning about another of the world’s great religions; to find similarities to our own and the purposes of Buddhist practices.

There will be a time of reflection plus questions and answers.  We will start promptly at 9:30 a.m.  Come to learn and welcome our guests!

Dialogue Question:  If we look at the principles and practices of our respective faiths as maps for guiding us through life, what is the intended destination (s)?  Where are our maps guiding us?  What are you becoming or wanting to create in the world through your faith?  How will things be better / different if you are wildly successful?

GUIDELINES FOR SITE SELECTION & BUILDING

First Christian Church – Boulder

(published in our Discernment Process Report)

Our Mission:

To be a faithful, growing church that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality, and a passion for justice (Micah 6:8)

Our Core Values:

*Sustaining our congregation

*Maintaining our identity

*Growing our ministry and mission

Our mission and core values provide a firm foundation for our congregation, and a framework for our pastoral and lay leadership to follow as decisions are made going forward.  Your Site Selection and Building Committees ask that you keep these in mind as you prayerfully consider the information we will present about building options, space and programming needs.

THANK YOU

A big “thank you” to all who helped with the Rose Bowl project this year!  Special thanks go to Martha Mason and the Deborah-Rebekah Group (Valentines), the “lively” New Women’s Group (prep and delivery) and Kay Lowe-Wendling (rose bowls and flowers).  Kay put much work into the beautiful bowls with real roses and cheerful embellishments making them very special.

And thanks to Bob Wendling.  Our home-folks love to visit with Bob and Kay.  Perhaps more men will help with the visiting next year?  Thanks for making this worthwhile project a joy!

FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES

March, April 2008

*CHANGE OF HOSTS AND MOVIES FROM OUR EARLIER ANNOUNCEMENT.

Friday, March 14, 7:00 p.m.

Host:  Sandy Bish, 1381 Carlson Ave., Erie, 303.974.0975

Movie:  Cape of Good Hope (107 minutes)

Mark Bamford’s thought-provoking comedy explores the ever-present friction between class, race and faith in modern-day South Africa, tracing the intersection of multiple lives.  Although her tiny animal shelter is open to all creatures great and small, Kate still can’t seem to open her heart to romance.  Meanwhile, her employees and clientele are in need of rescue themselves.

Friday, April 11, 7:00 p.m.

Host:  Martha Mason, 660 S. 42nd St., Boulder, 303.494.1057

Movie:  Children of Heaven (83 minutes) Iranian with English sub-titles

A delightful movie about a boy who accidentally loses his sister’s shoes and must share his own sneakers with her in a sort of relay since each attends school at different times during the day.  Finally, the boy enters a much-publicized foot race, hoping to place third.  The prize: a new pair of sneakers.  Children of Heaven is just…heavenly.

YOUTH PROJECTS

LIVING WATER WORKS

BY UPPER ELEMENTARY (GRADES 3, 4, 5) CLASS

After studying about Jesus’ offer of living water (John 4:14), we discussed more ways we could help people have a better life.  For now, the 3rd – 5th graders are doing a penny drive.  We will collect coins on Sundays to raise money this month for Attention Homes.  It's the only short-term treatment facility for youth, ages 12-18, in Boulder County.

Our goal is $50 by Palm Sunday, March 16.  Look for our signs to tell about each project and a water jug in the narthex to collect donations.  If you can, please help us by sharing your coins each Sunday.  Thank you.

Cameron Skanes, for Upper Elementary Class
