The potluck will be on the back lawn (weather permitting).  Please bring your lawn chairs to cut back on having to haul the chairs out of Riley Hall.  For more fun, wear your high school or college colors!

LIFE AND NEWS OF THE CONGREGATION!

Our sympathy is extended to Kay Lowe-Wendling upon the death of her aunt, Martha Lowe who died August 8 in La Junta, Colorado.

Bob and Kay Lowe-Wendling received word this week that their son, Cory is ill with pneumonia.  Cory is currently teaching English in South Korea.  Prayers have been requested.

Someone left the gate open and Mary ann Pinon is traveling once again!  This time her destination was Taos, NM.

Jim Tallman has asked for a “leave of absence” from his duties as Elder and Elder Chair.  He’s been having severe asthma problems this summer. Get well soon Jim! You and Joe are missed! You are both in our prayers.

Cindy and Terry Zimmerman enjoyed “doing almost nothing but being together” for a few days in Keystone and Eagle recently.

Thanks to the Rev. Priscilla Inkpen, for bringing the morning message last week!

Our new Music Director, Becca Hirsch, was surprised by a friend with a weekend in Vail before settling into the new school year.

Back pain took our Youth Director, Sherrill Morris, to the ER early this week.  Tests are being conducted to find the cause of the problem.  Our prayers continue.

FLOC 1994 Ford Van Contributed to Tennyson Center

Last year, the Church Board agreed to contribute the remaining FLOC van to the Colorado Christian Home's Tennyson Center.  The Tennyson Center was unable to use the van, but indicated they had a contract with Vehicles for Charity, a part of the Metro Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC) Thrift Stores, where they would receive a part of the proceeds of the sale of any vehicle.  The 1994 Ford van was towed from the church on March 15, 2006, and sold at auction for $2800.  The net proceeds were $2405 (the auction company's commission was $280, the towing fee was $75, and the processing fee (per contract with Tennyson) was $40).  The Tennyson Center's contract with Vehicles for Charity gave the Tennyson Center 60% of the net proceeds, or $1443; Vehicles for Charity received 40%, or $962.

BEST UGLY Youth GROUP SOFA!

On Sunday, September 17th, from 3 to 5 p.m., youth of FCC and youth of Central Christian Church will be hosting the Best Ugly Youth Group Sofa Event at Central Christian Church in Denver.  It will be a time for games, cookies and lemonade, and a contest for which youth group has the ugliest sofa in their youth room!  (We even have a trophy in the works!)

14 Metro District Churches have been invited to bring their middle and high school youth to join us in the event.  It is going to be fun, fabulous and nerve wracking as we vote on which sofa is ugliest!

Please consider supporting the event by baking two dozen cookies for the snack time.  14 churches could mean a lot of hungry cookie eaters!  Please let Sherrill know if you can support this endeavor!

                                                                                                Sherrill Morris, Youth Director

WE REMEMBER IN PRAYER

CHOIR NEWS!!!

Greetings to my new friends at FCC!  My name is Becca Hirsch and I am the new Director of Music at First Christian Church.  I am very excited to be here and am anxious to get started!  Choir practice will begin on Wednesday, September 6th at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.  Not in the choir?  Give it a try - come join us!  We will enjoy good fellowship and strengthen spiritual connections through music.  I look forward to meeting and getting to know the church family and hope to see many of you at choir practice.  Put Sunday, September 17th on your calendars as well!  There will be a choir potluck social at the home of Terry and Cindy at 4:00 p.m.  Current choir members and anyone interested in joining the choir are invited.  Please bring a dish to share.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 970.222.2476.

                                                                                                Love and light,

Becca Hirsch, Choir Director

Thanks to Dennis Hubbard for the completion of the landscaping around the FCC church sign.  The project is complete!  And thank you Jane Byers for coordinating the summer special music!

Dear Youth (And Parental Units!)

Yay for August!  Because that means it’s almost September and time for youth group to begin again!  Unless otherwise noted, all meetings are 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the Education Building, Youth Room.

We will have our first fall meeting on September 11th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., in the youth room in the basement of the Education Building.  Please bring your parents or grandparents and ask everyone to dress in something that could get a little wet or a little messy!  (you’ll understand when you get there!)

Below is a copy of the fall schedule.  We have many fun events planned.  The one event that isn’t on the calendar is car parking for one CU football game.  That is how we raise the funds we use each year for our program (and riding go-carts and mini golf…can you find that on your calendar?) and events.  We will announce that date as soon as we get it.

At the first meeting, we will play some games, discuss the calendar and our youth group guidelines, and answer any questions you may have.  If you have any questions before then, call me at 303.329.8122.  CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU!!!!!
