WELCOME JEFF HOGAN!

The Organist Search Committee has completed it task.  We have a new organist.  Jeff Hogan has been playing the piano since he was 5 years old and began his organ training about 15 years ago.  He is passionate about the organ and you can experience that passion when he sits down in front of it.  During his interview, he filled our sanctuary with the richness of music that can only be produced by an individual that truly knows and loves the instrument.  He has traveled throughout the world to have the experience of playing a variety of organs in cathedrals and palaces.  We are blessed to have Jeff and what he will be adding to our worship service.

I also want to thank the Search Committee for their time and input.  It was a great process with a wonderful outcome.

                                                                                                Pam Ware, Chair of Personnel

LIFE & NEWS OF THE CONGREGATION!

Dar las gracias a algun por algo Jaime Alvarez and Dennis Hubbard for installing the air conditioner!  We are so cool now!  It’s heavenly!

More thanks!  Thank you so very much Jean and Ray Crowder for providing the staff with a table for the patio outside the church office!  The table was a donation to the church from their next-door neighbor.  Thank you, Jean, for sweeping the patio and Ray for putting the

table together.  The staff will greatly enjoy our new spot to take a break.

Pam Ware is taking a well-deserved few days of vacation in Michigan attending her partner’s family reunion and seeing old friends.

San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta and L.A. are just a few of the places Teresa Tuschhoff’s new job with the Matthew Shepard Foundation is taking her!

Sympathy is extended to Bob Dalton upon the death of his uncle, Robert Dalton (99) who died last week in Nebraska.

Welcome home, Mary ann Pinon!  She spent 3 weeks touring Italy!  How ’bout an FCCafé?

Congratulations to Polly and Lee Warkentine who will become grandparents for the fifth time.  Blaine and Stacy of Salt Lake City are expecting their son, Parker to arrive soon!

Congratulations Cory Wendling!  Cory will be teaching 5th grade in the Adams 12 Five Star Schools system this fall.

Martha Mason and her sister Mary enjoyed a fabulous river trip starting in Amsterdam and ending it in Germany.

IN SYMPATHY

Love and sympathy also go to the family of June Craig who died on August 15.  Rev. Zimmerman officiated at a celebration of her life in the Aspen Room at Golden West on August 18th.  June was the first to serve as Elder as a Golden West resident at our Golden West service.

HOMES NEEDED FOR SPECIAL CHILDREN

A Very Special Baby

Baby Miracle is a very special baby.  Born prematurely and weighting in at only three pounds, she has made remarkable progress.  Now at nine weeks, she is a healthy 7 lbs, 3 oz.  Baby Miracle is a medically fragile infant who needs a family with a stay-at-home parent.  She has significant health challenges which will require focused attention and dedication from a family both now and as she grows up.  In spite of her medical issues, Baby Miracle has a strong will to survive and is in need of a loving, safe family who will help her grow.  Having spent the last nine weeks in the hospital, she is ready to move into the arms and hearts of a family who will nurture and cherish her forever.  Are you that family?

Jeremy is waiting for you!

Jeremy is an 8-year old kid who is waiting for his forever family!  And, he is ready now!  It doesn’t take long when spending time with Jeremy to fall in love with him.  He is inquisitive, playful, and loves playing with big trucks, games, coloring and riding his bike.  Offer him ice cream and his eyes light up with anticipation!

Jeremy has significant development delays and needs a family who can help him meet his potential.  He has two siblings whom he loves dearly and he will need to keep in touch with them.  Jeremy’s therapist says he will be a great big brother or he will also do well as the youngest in a family.

It’s hard for an eight-year old kid to be on his own.  Jeremy needs a family who will always want him in their lives, who will love him and where he can grow up to know how very special he is.

For more information about how you can be a fost-adopt family for Baby Miracle, please call Cindy Mollica, Boulder County Department of Social Services, 3400 Broadway, Boulder, 303.441.1089

FCC YOUTH DIRECTOR

As many of you may know, the Board recently decided to end Sherrill Morris’s employment as Youth Director at First Christian Church, effective July 31.  In recognition of her years of service, we will continue to pay her health insurance through October 31.  We wish Sherrill all the best as she works to regain her health, but we felt the youth of our church were best served by a change at this time.  The youth, parents, and Sherrill plan to have a gathering in September to celebrate her time as FCC Youth Director.

A Search Committee is being formed to revise the job description and begin the search for a new Youth Director, whom we hope to have in place no later than the end of the year.  In the interim, Becky Campbell-Howe has agreed to lead the Youth Group – thank you Becky!

If anyone has questions about the Board’s decision, or suggestions for the future of the youth program at FCC, please contact Erik Mason, 303.678.9679.

                                                                                                Erik Mason

During her tenure Sherrill led our youth to a deeper understanding of the faith and formed many meaningful bonds and relationships with youth, children and adults.

A “Thank You” party is being planned for Sherrill at which time youth and parents will have the opportunity to express their love and gratitude to her.   She is still a part of our hearts and our church family!  Those from the congregation wishing to contribute to a “Love Gift” for Sherrill may do so by mailing donations to the church office indicating “Love Gift.”

NEW IN THE PEW – PATRICK RIOS

Patrick Rios joined our congregation by baptism on April 8.  Vacations and summer schedules intervened to delay this welcome article on Patrick until now.  The son of Willie and Mary Rios, Patrick has been a part of our church family since he was very young.

Patrick is going into seventh grade at Summit Middle School in south Boulder.  His favorite activity is football, and he plays quarterback for a team in the east Boulder recreational league.  He is a very “balanced” person, as shown by his skill at unicycling.

His favorite part of the summer was a trip with his family to the Four Corners region, seeing Mesa Verde, Zion National Park, and the Grand Canyon.  Patrick’s baptism and confession of faith should remind us all of the hope and energy of youth.  Please welcome him into the membership of First Christian Church.

A CHANCE TO GIVE TO YOUTH OF OUR REGION

Many of us have either attended church camps and conferences during our youth or we have been involved in some way with the children and youth at FCC this summer who attended church camp at La Foret.

We have recently learned of a financial need and great opportunity to participate in meeting the $30,000 short-fall in funding for our regional camp and conference programs.  Through various efforts, 1/3 of this amount has been raised.  Gerry Hatler of Seattle, the brother of Gay Hatler, retired minister of First Christian Church in Colorado Springs, has graciously offered a $10,000 matching gift (ending in September) to the region to help with the remainder of this financial need.  This money is important for our region in order to hire a camp director, and to enable those youth in our region to attend camp whose families cannot afford for them to attend otherwise.

For the month of August only, we invite you to give to this matching gift as you are able and feel so inspired.  Please mark your checks payable to: FCC (with Camp and Conference noted), send to the church office or deposit in the offering tray on Sunday.

We thank you for your generosity to the various ministries and missions of our church!

Janet Barriger, Mission and Outreach

CU FOOTBALL PARKING

The CU football parking season is almost upon us again.  Each year, the church sells parking spaces as a fundraiser.  We are in need of volunteers to set up, take money, and direct cars into spaces. Although our lot is not as large as it used to be, that just means that we fill up more quickly.  If anyone would be interested in coordinating football parking, ensuring we have a leader and enough volunteers for each game, please contact Erik Mason at 303.678.9679.
