LIFE AND NEWS OF THE CONGREGATION!

News Flash!  Zurich, Switzerland!  Mardi Byers sings the lead in the opera, “Tosca!”  Mother Jane Byers, attends performance (s)!  At least that is the hope.  Mardi is currently plagued with “respiratory crud” which could prevent her singing.

The “Hubbard Moving and Remodeling Company,” which operates only in the Boston, Massachusetts area, is back at work.  Eleanor and Dennis Hubbard once again visited “Bean Town” to help their daughter and son-in-law with the task of rehabbing and moving into a

  new/old house!

Steve Kadlec, underwent surgery early this week to relieve discomfort caused by a chronic digestive disorder.  The surgery went well and Steve is expected to be back to work in a week or two.

Our Golden West friend, John Strong, suffered a fall three weeks ago.  After time in the hospital and in Boulder Manor recuperating, it was decided John should move to Tucson, Arizona to be near his son.  The move took place last weekend.

The “second last day” for Vincent Mirandi as our Music Director will be May 14th.  Vincent plans to move to Florida to be near his father and grandmother.  He will be missed!

Carol and Milton Ashmore, Louise Johnson, Sherrill Morris, Cindy and Terry Zimmerman are planning to attend the Regional Assembly of the Central Rocky Mountain Region, Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) to be held at Central Christian Church,

Denver.  The event takes place on May 5th and 6th.

Debra Manchester shares via email, “I just wanted to let you know that I have another article published!  This is one I wrote with Ginger Liemohn about our book club.  It appears on pages 8 & 9 of the May/June issue of “bookmarks” which is available at newsstands and major

  bookstores.”  Congratulations, Debra!

Congratulations to Dr. David O. Norris who is one of four who will receive the Robert L. Sterns award in May.  According to the Alumni brochure, “The Sterns Award recognizes outstanding members of the current CU-Boulder faculty and staff.  It honors exceptional

achievement or service in any one, but usually a combination, of the following areas:

outstanding teaching, extraordinary service to the University, exemplary work with students,

significant research and/or off campus service to the community.”

YOUTH GROUP RETREAT

The Youth Group Easter (Duct Tape) Retreat was a great success!  We explored Duct Tape as a metaphor for Easter...how it strengthens the weak, mends the broken, holds us together and creates new things!  We played Duct Tape games, other games and had a Easter worship late Saturday night where we looked at the broken things in our lives and wrapped them up in duct tape to symbolize using the power of Easter to mend them.  Aside from needing a bit more sleep, we all had a great time.  We want to send a HUGE thank you to Jim Howe who helped with many aspects of our retreat, from shopping to making us breakfast.  Jim, you are awesome!  And invited back anytime you want to return!
